VIRGINIA BEACH - In his first bid for elected office, Candidate for Virginia Beach City Council Ryan Gilliam won the endorsement of the Republican Party of Virginia Beach (RPVB) over his opponent, School Board member Jennifer Franklin.
"I'm indescribably humbled by the faith that the Republican Party of Virginia Beach has placed in my campaign and will work hard to win this November" Gilliam was heard to say at the conclusion of the April City Committee meeting.
In what Ryan Gilliam referred to as a "bold step" by the City Committee in his speech to the membership, the vote was open to all current members of the RPVB City Committee despite the matter of endorsing candidates for local elected office has been a matter of contention among the local GOP.
